With the autumn coaching season well under way, we thought we would take the opportunity to share our ideas about the future of CTW young cyclists. There is quite a bit to cover, so you may need a cuppa!
It has long been our ambition to grow the club and be in a position to offer more than just our regular coaching sessions. However this is easier said than done. The assistance we receive on a coaching night from some of our parents is invaluable, but in order to progress and become an established cycling club for youngsters in the area, we need more help.
Over the winter we are looking to recruit another coach / coach assistant enabling us to feel confident that we can support our growing numbers and provide the best coaching and opportunities to ride that we can. We are also looking for parents to get more involved in the club committee. In particular, with Charlotte stepping down, we want to fill the role of Safeguarding Officer.
We also have a number of ideas to develop the facilities at Pittville Park; our ideas include a building of some kind for registration and storage alongside introducing more obstacles around the course to expand the range of what we can coach. This would benefit not only the club, but also the local community and enhance the course for the Western League cx races. However, something like this requires ‘buy in’ from a number of key agencies and some pretty robust justification to seek the appropriate funding from the likes of British Cycling, Sport England or even the National Lottery.
We have already seen the club grow over the last few years and we’ve made a start to shape and develop what we do, our newly designed club logo and brand-new kit is just one of the things that we have been proud to introduce, it looks great on our riders and coaches and I know it makes us all feel part of something. It is with special thanks to Nibbs and Izzy for their hard work in making this happen.
Our Wednesday night coaching sessions are going from strength to strength. There will be increased focus on rider development in multiple disciplines (where possible) and the added competitive edge of a ‘Go-Ride’ event in each season alongside promoting the Western cx league races held at our location and at other venue’s around the South West. We will continue to coach after half term and on into December but then we then take a short break during January and February, as it really is too cold to ride and the weather can be miserable resulting in many cancellations. We will start back again in early March and set ourselves up for the Spring season.
We are an affiliated British Cycling club, there is a requirement that should your son / daughter continue with the coaching sessions, they become a member of CTW. We have not impressed this upon anyone over the last 18 months, working first on building a thriving cycling community. However if we are to grow and build like we plan we will would appreciate all our young riders becoming members. Membership is set at just £10 per annum per rider and administered through British Cycling – you can follow this link to become register as a club member
Your support of the club in this way is appreciated and will help us fund more coaches and result in us being able to provide more age group sessions and thereby grow the club.
And finally we continue to build our presence on social media and through our website so please make sure you are following us from the links below. Please feel free to share or link others to the work we do and hopefully through the next 18 months we will become the cycling hub for Cheltenham’s young riders.
